I’m so happy to bring ‘Heart and Soul Inspiring Women’ series. I will be featuring inspiring amazing women that are changing lives but that also radiate a beautiful lightness about them. These women that I will be sharing with you are shining their lights so brightly, following their dreams, living in their truth and in my eyes are living and breathing their yoga.
I’m happy to bring you the ”The Heart and Soul Inspiring Women Series” interview back today and I’m thrilled to be sharing the angelic and light soul Angel Singmin. This lady is an absolute angel, radiating pure light from her being. She’s got one cute smile that never seems to leave her lovely face!
Angel is the Co-Founder and Owner of ”The Future Sound of Yoga” created by Angel and Matt Singmin (husband + wife), two very passionate music yogi’s. Matt and Angel met in a dance tent at Glastonbury in 2005, and have since been practicing yoga together with electronic music. It’s an experience based on your senses which involves dance music and movement (yoga + dancing) all to a live DJ (Matt). The movements are a mixture of traditional yoga poses and free form dance. The evening normally starts with some yoga poses and we then clear the mats and have a massive dance off and then get back down for some more yoga (yin style – wind down).
The gorgeous Angel takes us through a beautiful yoga sequence all to the background sound of the live DJ (Matt). Yes that’s really her name and she seriously is an angel – gorgeous soul that takes you on a journey through breath and movement! Thanks to her gentle encouragement, everyone feels comfortable to move at ease through the church introducing themselves to each other along the way!
She is one inspiring lady and I can’t wait to share her story with you today. Get ready to feel inspired by another amazing heart and soul woman who walks her talk!
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
I am the co-founder of the Future Sound of Yoga, a concept pioneered in 2010 by myself and partner/DJ, Matt Singmin, which fuses together our mutual passion for yoga, dance and music. I facilitate the yoga and movement experience whilst Matt DJ’s and creates the soundscape to move through. Together we love travelling and sharing the FSOY experience across Australia and overseas at various yoga and music festivals, events and conferences.
I also have a deep passion for offering yoga and wellness programmes to the corporate world through Dandelion Yoga – a service I founded in 2009, bringing yoga, meditation and zen to offices and work spaces across Sydney.
Q. What are some of the obstacles you have encountered on your path, and how did you push past them?
Being a natural night owl, I tend to wake up late, but happy to follow my natural body rhythms
I kick start my morning with exercise – sometimes running, swimming or more preferably I’ll take my mat down to bondi beach and flow through a yoga practice in front of the ocean. I will then get ready and travel across the city and visit clients in their lunch break and bring them the practices of yoga and meditation so they feel healthy, happy and motivated for the rest of their day. I also spend time managing the Future Sound of Yoga events and festivals that we have coming up.
Q. Who and what inspires you?
Music, Glastonbury Festival, Yoga, My mum, Feldenkrais, Simon Borg-Olivier, Qi gong, Ballet.
Q. How do you get balance in your life?
I like to be organised so plan my week ahead and prioritise as much as possible. I create time everyday for myself by practicing yoga nidra – whether its for 10 mins or 35mins, it gives an amazing boost of energy and sparks creativity. My yoga practice is also key to maintaining perspective and giving clarity in living life to its fullest potential.
Q. For a woman (or anyone starting their own business), what three things are most critical for them to be mindful of?
- Follow your passion
- Trust your intuition
- Try and find balance by taking regular breaks to breathe and re-centre (esp when things get crazy busy)
Q. What is your secret indulgence?
Chocolate. Any type. Anytime. Anywhere
Q. What was the happiest moment in your life or career to date?
One of the most memorable experiences was the very first Future Sound of Yoga event we ran back in Jan 2010 in Sydney. It was an experimental session where we wanted to test our idea of blending yoga and music together to an audience of friends who were up for trying something new. It was wild, creative and marked the start of this incredible journey.
Other highlights include: opening the Yoga Aid Challenge for Sydney in both 2011 and 2012, performing at Byron Spirit Festival and running “Night Creatures” in 2013, an alternative night out for Halloween where 600 people got together for dress up, music, DJs, dancing, yoga and superfoods – that was a blast!
Q. What’s your favourite quote or personal mantra to live by?
Q. How do you practice self-compassion?
Constantly reminding myself and others whilst teaching that nothing needs to be fixed – everything is as it should be.
Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want with you?
It would have to be.. my fav lip balm, Analucia Singmin (furbaby) and my yoga mat
Q. If you could give advice to my readers who are either trying to find the courage to pursue their dreams or are at the beginning of their own journey, what would it be?
Set yourself an intention and be clear about what it is that you want and the direction you are going. Share your vision with close friends and family so you have support around you. And finally, make checklists so you can stay on track and keep moving forwards. Good luck!
