I’m so happy to bring ‘Heart and Soul Inspiring Women’ series. I will be featuring inspiring amazing women that are changing lives but that also radiate a beautiful lightness about them. These women that I will be sharing with you are shining their lights so brightly, following their dreams, living in their truth and in my eyes are living and breathing their yoga.
I’m thrilled to bring you the ”The Heart and Soul Inspiring Women Series” interview back today (sorry guys, its been a while) and I’m ecstatic to be sharing this beautiful soul and beam of light Krys Hansen. This post is well overdue (sorry Krys!). I’m really excited to share Krys’s story with you today, I’ve a feeling you’re going to walk away feeling inspired! I’ve been following this gorgeous yoga goddess for some time and I absolutely love her work and message. You’ve got to follow this special lady, currently she is sharing beautiful mudras on Instagram for the whole month of May – how lucky are we!
Krys and I share similar dreams below “To buy a block of land on the Sunshine Coast and build an eco-friendly home. I envision a large vegetable garden, a separate yoga studio for retreats and my family around me. I would also love to be able to travel the world and teach yoga and meditation to others and inspire them to share it with those around them.”. This too is one of my greatest dreams!
This beautiful lady is currently pregnant (which you’ll find out about below) and about to pop any day soon. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a woman look so beautiful and graceful being pregnant before than Krys! She is radiant and a true proof of a healthy lifestyle!
Krys is an Aussie living in the Seychelles madly in love with her surf coach partner James, infatuated with their soon-to-be-born son and living a simple life of coconuts, the ocean, prayer, yoga and healthy nourishing food. Sounds heavenly right! Read on to find out more about her beautiful story and you’ll understand why she’s a Heart & Soul Inspiring Woman.
Thanks so much for sharing your personal story and wisdom with us today Krys! This one is full to the brim of golden nuggets of wisdom!
Q. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
I work with modern women (and a few awesome men), by helping them create a soulful practice so their external environment aligns to their true desires. This can include better nutrition, a spiritual practice, or a whole life change. It’s about honesty. It’s about bravery.
Through Practise Wellness I offer advice, reflections and learnings on how to live yogic life in our modern society.
As an individual we can inspire change, and as a community we can action it. My dream is that through the Modern Yogi Movement we could create change in the world, while also learning to love ourselves and live more genuine lives.
I am a qualified Vinyasa Flow teacher, and teach a style that works strongly with the breath for a deeper and more challenging practice and believe the effects of practicing yoga go beyond the work done on the mat. My aim as a teacher is to help my students connect with their inner strength to better approach the world (because let’s face it, it’s tough out there!).
I am based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my surf coach partner James and our cat Habibi (her name means my darling). We are also expecting our first child in May 2014.
Q. What does a day in your life look like?
Everything has changed since I fell pregnant. I used to be much more active but going through my first trimester I really learnt and embraced the importance of rest. As my morning sickness has finally passed I am now working my way back into a day that better resembles life pre-pregnancy.
I am not one for routine and prefer to keep things fluid. I usually wake around 5am and spend some time meditating and journaling before I get up and start my day. From there I try to tick off things on my self-care and wellness list, such as move my body, spend some time practicing pranayama, have at least an hour without technology during the day (working online you can spend a lot of time with technology), and spend time with my partner James.
My rule of thumb each day is fill it with good things, say thank you for everything (even bills), and don’t get caught up or attached to anything.
Q. What are some of the obstacles you have encountered on your path, and how did you push past them?
I have always waited until everything was perfect before really doing something, which meant there were a lot of things I missed out on or didn’t achieve. This was a big lesson for me, learning to dive in and work with whatever circumstances I had.
Also believing in my own voice. While I knew what I wanted to say and the message I wanted to share with the world, finding the confidence to put it out there and brave what could come back to me was something I struggled with. So far I have been so blessed that people really love what I have to say which is about acceptance and compassion for ourselves and others.
Q. Who and what inspires you?
Honesty and people being genuine inspires me. I am so inspired by kindness and compassion shown by others.
Q. How do you get balance in your life?
Remember that everything will pass. What is real is that each day will bring with it a new set of challenges, joy, lessons and experiences. Nothing is permanent and placing too much importance on anything only ties me to the past and pulls me away from being present in each moment.
Meditation and pranayama are amazing tools that have helped me find that balance and maintain my connection with it. I used to fall into worry and anxiety very easily, but through a strong meditation and breathing practice I have been able to let that go as well.
Q. For a woman (or anyone starting their own business), what three things are most critical for them to be mindful of?
- Be clear on why you are embarking on this journey. What is it you hope to achieve or communicate with people? Don’t let money be the main focus as you will make the wrong decisions.
- Be patient. Some days you will feel like you are getting nowhere and the next day you will wonder how you are going to fit everything in. Building a business takes time, and you have to work at it for a while at first before you will begin to feel a response out there in the world.
- Don’t be afraid to reinvent a little. You may find 12 months into your business that you are being pulled in a slightly different direction, or have found something you are even more passionate about. Work with your passion and follow it as that is where you will find success.
Q. What is your secret indulgence?
Dark chocolate and reality tv shows. My partner cannot believe I watch them but I do enjoy shows like The Bachelor and Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Q. What was the happiest moment in your life or career to date?
This is such as tough question! There are so many little moments in my career that have brought me joy. My students, emails I received, the relationships I have with other online entrepreneurs.
In my life, I would have to say seeing my 13 weeks scan and watching the little soul I have created wriggling and moving around. This really was the happiest moment of my life as a month before we fell pregnant I was told I couldn’t have children and would need surgery. I asked for three months to try and correct the issue naturally through diet and meditation. A month later I was pregnant.
Q. What’s your favourite quote or personal mantra to live by?
Let go of the fear and do it anyway.
Q. How do you practice self-compassion?
By loving my body and my soul as it is right now. Of course there are days I feel like I have so much to change, but instead I turn it around and thank my legs for their strength, my hips for their sturdiness, my mind for its imagination and intelligence etc.
Q. ‘Love’ means….
Not trying to change the person whether it is your partner, friend or family. It is about loving and accepting where they are at that time and meeting them half way. It means always being honest and telling them when they are losing their way, and supporting them no matter what.
Q. What’s your biggest dream?
To buy a block of land on the Sunshine Coast and build an eco-friendly home. I envision a large vegetable garden, a separate yoga studio for retreats and my family around me. I would also love to be able to travel the world and teach yoga and meditation to others and inspire them to share it with those around them.
Q. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want with you?
My little family, an endless supply of writing materials, and book on how to survive on a deserted island.
Q. If you could give advice to my readers who are either trying to find the courage to pursue their dreams or are at the beginning of their own journey, what would it be?
Don’t feel like your dreams have to be huge to be worthy of your time. It is your life to create and achieve anything you want. Start small and stay connected with what it is you are working towards. You will be surprised by the transformation that can come from even the smallest of changes.
