How are you preparing for the winter solstice (if you’re in the southern hemisphere) and summer solstice (if you’re in the northern hemisphere) on June 21st?
We are just a few short days away from the winter solstice here in the southern hemisphere. This is a very potent and auspicious time.
In fact, it’s a poignant time to stop and listen, to go within and harmonise your energy and reassess your connection to spirit. It’s a powerful time of re-birth and transformation – a time to acknowledge your shadow, heal your wounds, release outdated old beliefs and thought patterns and align with your inner flame to awaken to your highest destiny.
Yogi Bhajan who brought Kundalini Yoga to the west said:
Revolve your life around summer and winter solstice and everything will be taken care of.
Come home when you can because there are two things in life — Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice — when the divine cosmic energy can help to elevate your consciousness and your breath.
During the winter solstice, the sun hugs closer to the horizon than at any other time during the year, giving way to the least amount of daylight annually. On the bright side, the day after the winter solstice marks the beginning of lengthening days leading up to the summer solstice.
In the tradition of Kundalini Yoga solstices, equinoxes, full and new moons are respected and celebrated as energetic gateways that can be accessed for spiritual transformation.
For thousands of years, the Solstice turning points of every year have been honored and celebrated on this planet. We know this because concrete evidence still exists in ancient stone circles, mounds, and sacred sites.
Winter is a yin season and as we approach the Winter Solstice, the days are the shortest and there is the shortest amount of light during the day. This signifies a time of introspection and going inside your sacred sanctuary to be still to receive from life. It’s a wonderful opportunity for you to contemplate and integrate as your energy is drawn inwards. It is a phase of letting go, consolidating, integrating and gathering before the spring arrives.
I’m preparing myself by cleansing my body, mind, and spirit via juice cleansing over the last 3 days pre-winter solstice. Cleansing a few days before the solstice helps support the new metabolism secretions and you will start to feel more energised, more balanced and more patient as your body starts to come back into balance.
I’ve also decided to challenge myself by rising at 3 am (ambrosial hours, when the sun is at a sixty-degree angle to the Earth, the energy you put into your sadhana gets maximum results) starting tomorrow for the next 40 days for my sadhana practice. I am committing a new 40-day practice with Sodarshan Chakra Kriya. Sodarshan Chakra Kriya is said to be the highest kriya. This meditation cuts all darkness. It gives you a new start. It is the simplest kriya but at the same time the hardest. It cuts through all barriers of the neurotic or psychotic inside-nature. This kriya invokes the Kundalini to give you the necessary vitality and intuition to combat the negative effects of the subconscious mind. Doing Sodarshan Chakra Kriya is a way to master yourself. If you’d like to join me, you can find the kriya instructions here.
A way that I will be honouring and welcoming in the darkness on June 21st is by not using any artificial lighting only candle lights. If you have some glass jam jars gather them around your home with a tea candle in each and as the darkness approaches light your candles. I recommend that you do some form of a releasing/letting go ceremony. Write down on a sheet of paper all that you wish to release and let go of and then set it aflame affirming “I let this go and it is so”.
If you’d like to join me in August for my next live event in Sydney as we dive deep into the underworld, facing our darkness and saying goodbye to the winter, I still have some spaces available here. The reality is that if we don’t fully let go in winter we will just take that into the next season of spring.
Happy Winter Solstice Blessings to you.
