Because you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, including yourself.
Your behavior subconsciously influences your friends and vise versus.
The people you surround yourself with dramatically impact your beliefs (beliefs are infectious), and the way your friends behave influences your behavior, your habits.
If you hang around people who are healthy and fit, there is a greater chance that you will get fit and healthy and that works both ways (it can also work in the opposite way too).
Who you chose to spend time with greatly influences the person you will become. Who you chose to spend your time with can raise you up as much as it can bring you down.
